Amadeus to acquire Idemia Public Security for 1.2 billion euros

MADRID – Amadeus announced its intention to acquire Idemia Public Security (IPS), a France-based biometrics and identity services provider, for €1.2 billion, following a competitive bidding process.

IPS operates globally with a diversified customer base across public and private sectors. Upon completion, the acquisition is expected to strengthen Amadeus’ biometric and identity capabilities, leveraging IPS’ technology platform and global client portfolio. The transaction follows Amadeus’ acquisition of Vision-Box in 2024.

The integration of IPS capabilities is aligned with Amadeus’ strategy to embed biometric identity solutions into its core travel platform, as digital identity becomes increasingly central to the end-to-end travel journey and adoption of biometric technologies accelerates across the industry.

By combining biometric solutions with airline, airport, border control systems and hotels, Amadeus aims to support increased automation across the travel journey. The integration is expected to enable more seamless and secure processes, enhancing interconnectivity between stakeholders and improving operational efficiency.

The combined Amadeus-IPS offering is expected to support the digitalization of travel processes, enabling faster identity verification, improved security and more efficient operations. The transaction also aims to enhance Amadeus’ ability to connect multiple touchpoints across the traveler journey, supporting its objective to act as an orchestrator of the travel ecosystem.

Luis Maroto, President and CEO of Amadeus, stated: “This demonstrates further our long-term commitment to biometrics as part of our broader platform strategy. Alongside AI, biometrics is one of the most transformative technologies for delivering fast, convenient, and secure end-to-end traveler journeys. This will enable us to deliver our services across more traveler touch points, in turn reducing friction, and improving the traveler experience, while supporting our ambition to further expand biometric capabilities, extending traveler ID throughout the journey.”

Decius Valmorbida, President, Travel at Amadeus, added: “In a fast-evolving AI-world the bridging of physical and digital identity will be critical for seamless travel. By combining Amadeus and IPS capabilities we will be able to create more joined-up travel journeys in the future, better connecting the travel ecosystem and linking the traveler to the different steps of the journey.”

IPS employs approximately 3,300 people worldwide and serves more than 600 customers across public and private sectors. In addition to passenger processing, its capabilities extend to secure identity solutions in areas such as access control and government-grade biometric identification systems.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, with completion expected by mid-2027.
