Over the whole of 2025, Genève Aéroport welcomed 17,848,370* passengers, an increase of 0.29% compared with 2024 (17,796,333 passengers). The number of passengers rose slightly, while at the same time the number of movements declined. In 2025, Genève Aéroport recorded 177,288 aircraft movements, down -1.02% compared to 2024 (179,107 movements).
The decline in movements compared to passenger growth was already observed in 2024. This phenomenon can be explained by the use higher capacity aircraft, higher load factors and Genève Aéroport's financial policy encouraging airlines to increase their load factors per aircraft. In 2025, this seat load factor exceeded 76.5%.
Compared to 2019, the pre-Covid year, passenger numbers were down 0.44% and aircraft movements were down 4.71%. As a reminder, in 2019, Genève Aéroport recorded 17,926,625 passengers and 186,044 movements.
Genève Aéroport, which had 146 direct routes in 2024, is expanding with 149 destinations in 2025, including an additional intercontinental route to Shanghai, operated by China Eastern since 16 June 2025.
The market shares of the top ten airlines for the past year are as follows: easyJet (46.0%), SWISS (12.4%), British Airways (4.4%), Air France (3.2%), Iberia (2.9%), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (2.5%), TAP Portugal (2.0%), Brussels Airlines (1.9%), Emirates (1.8%) and Turkish Airlines (1.7%).
Latest-generation aircraft: success of an incentive policy
For several years now, Genève Aéroport has been encouraging airlines to favor latest-generation aircraft – known as class 5 – through financial incentives. These aircraft, which are quieter and more fuel-efficient, accounted for 34.04% of scheduled and charter aircraft movements in 2025 (31.85% in 2024).
Another point of interest: in 2025, there were 9,514 movements between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. across all categories, including medical flights, representing 5.37% of flights (5.56% of flights in 2023 and 5.52% in 2024).
Noise quota system: further reduction in take-offs after 10 p.m.
Keen to reduce night-time flights and, in particular, late take-offs after 10 p.m., Genève Aéroport designed and implemented a system of dissuasive charges that came into force on 1 January 2025. Discussed with all airlines concerned by evening flights, this program was tested during 2024 with very concrete results. The number of take-offs after 10 p.m. was down 36.2% compared to 2023. In 2025, the formal implementation of this new system led to a further 24.6% reduction in take-offs after 10 p.m.
Freight: high level
The year 2025 saw a high level of air freight. Despite significant economic uncertainty and the impact of US customs duties, the annual tonnage of freight handled at Genève Aéroport amounted to 94,337 tonnes, compared with 90,696 tonnes in 2024. This freight volume is the second highest in the airport's history. Including postal freight, a total of 96,047 tonnes were handled in Geneva.
The 2025 annual report, including the financial statements and sustainability report, will be published on 24 March 2026.
