DOHA, QATAR – Qatar Airways has reached a major milestone in its in-flight connectivity strategy, becoming the operator of the largest number of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft worldwide. The airline has now fitted more than 100 widebody aircraft with Starlink, delivering what it describes as the fastest gate-to-gate* Wi-Fi in the sky and accelerating its rollout ahead of the original schedule.
Since launching the world’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 flight in October 2024, Qatar Airways has already operated over 30,000 flights with uninterrupted high-speed connectivity across six continents, including routes in Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. More than 50% of the carrier’s widebody fleet is now Starlink-connected.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, underlined that this is a strategic, execution-led move rather than a long-term promise. “Qatar Airways continues to lead the industry by setting new benchmarks with action, and not just intent. We have expedited our Starlink rollout, which is now advancing ahead of schedule as Qatar Airways brings the best travel experience to our passengers as an immediate priority, not a future ambition,” he said.
He added: “Equipping over 100 widebody aircraft since the launch of our first Starlink-equipped flight in October 2024 reflects this commitment. We now operate up to 200 daily Starlink-connected flights to key destinations to ensure our passengers stay seamlessly connected with speeds faster than many home Wi-Fi services. Whether working, streaming movies and sports, or staying in touch with friends and family, staying connected at 35,000 feet has never been more convenient.”
For travel trade and airline partners, this development significantly raises the bar for long-haul connectivity expectations, particularly in premium and corporate segments where always-on access is increasingly seen as a core part of the product.
Qatar Airways has already completed the Starlink installation programme on its Boeing 777 fleet and is “rapidly finalising” rollout across its Airbus A350 aircraft, with completion also targeted in record time. As the service is progressively extended, passengers across all cabins benefit from free, ultra-fast, gate-to-gate* connectivity on flights to more than 170 destinations.
This enhanced Wi-Fi capability supports streaming, gaming, VPN access and real-time collaboration tools at cruising altitude, reshaping both business and leisure travel experiences. It also reinforces Qatar Airways’ competitive positioning as the only carrier in the MENA region currently offering Starlink on board, and as a global leader in technology-led service innovation.
Positioned as the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax in 2025 for the ninth time, Qatar Airways is using its Starlink programme to further differentiate its long-haul and ultra-long-haul product, particularly on high-yield intercontinental flows connecting through Doha.
