Minor Hotels expands in Egypt through joint venture with SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises

Minor Hotels has announced a strategic joint venture with SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises, marking a major expansion of its presence in Egypt’s hospitality sector. The agreement was formalised during a ceremony attended by Egypt’s Prime Minister H.E. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities H.E. Sherif Fathi, reflecting the importance of the partnership for the country’s tourism growth.

The joint venture sets out plans to develop and manage up to 50 hotels across Egypt over the next decade, targeting both urban centres and leisure destinations. Initial projects include developments in West Cairo, Azha Ras El Hekma on the North Coast, and Azha Ain Al Sokhna. Minor Hotels will also assume management of seven projects spanning operational hotels, brownfield conversions, and new developments.

A key highlight will be the introduction of Anantara Hotels & Resorts, Minor Hotels’ flagship luxury brand, into multiple Egyptian locations. The collaboration will also expand to Nile cruise operations between Aswan and Luxor, complementing Minor Hotels’ existing portfolio of river cruise brands in Asia such as Mekong Kingdom and Loy Pela.

William E. Heinecke, Chairman & Founder of Minor International parent company of Minor Hotels commented, “Signing this joint venture with SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises is an important milestone as we bring Minor Hotels’ brands and hospitality expertise to Egypt, one of the world’s most storied and inspiring destinations. Together, we are charting a long-term vision that combines SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises’ deep local knowledge with our global reach to deliver exceptional luxury and lifestyle experiences across Egypt’s leading destinations.”

Hossam El Shaer, Chairman of SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises and Madaar Developments, noted “Egypt’s tourism sector is experiencing remarkable growth, fueled by increased investment and growing global interest. We are proud to be part of a collaboration that reflects our shared vision to elevate the country’s hotel and tourism industry. Since founding SUNRISE in 2002 we’ve focused on creating integrated, sustainable destinations that meet the highest international standards. This Partnership signals strong global confidence in Egypt’s economy and directly supports the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030.”

The partnership reinforces Egypt’s role as a global tourism hub, aligning with Egypt Vision 2030 by attracting investment, enhancing hospitality standards, and introducing internationally recognised brands to the country’s luxury and lifestyle segments.

With this agreement, Minor Hotels strengthens its long-term commitment to Egypt, combining global expertise with local insight to expand its portfolio in one of the world’s most iconic travel destinations.
