Copenhagen Airport reopens after drones cause closure

Flights at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark have resumed early on Tuesday morning after drones were sighted at the airport.

The airport said at least two ‘large, unidentified drones’ were spotted close to the airport.

All flights were grounded while dozens of inbound flights were diverted.

The airport stayed closed overnight.

However, police said the drones disappeared as suddenly as they had appeared and authorities have not yet identified them or where they came from.

An airport spokesperson said police were working to identify the drones but declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

“Passengers are requested to stay informed through their airline,” the airport said in a X post.

Copenhagen Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jakob Hansen said the drones ‘disappeared; before they could be apprehended.

Authorities have declined to share any more information about whether they were hobbyist or military drones.

It came a couple of days after a cyberattack impacted flight operations at Heathrow and other airports in Europe.
