The Framework provides practical tools to help airport operators assess, prioritize, report, and address ESG risks and opportunities, while recognizing already existing frameworks and adapting to diverse geographies, sizes, ownership structures, and regulatory environments.
The guidance is voluntary and is not meant to impose best practices on the industry, or to replace existing industry standards, reporting frameworks, or airport industry whitepapers on airport sustainability / ESG reporting1.
Why This Matters
Stakeholders – including investors, regulators, and communities – now expect transparent, comprehensive ESG reporting. ESG performance is increasingly linked to financial resilience and long-term value.
Airports play a critical role in advancing global sustainability goals, particularly in climate action and social responsibility. Strong ESG reporting supports this leadership and enhances access to sustainable and green financing.
The Framework was developed referencing, but not limited to, global standards such as Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and regional policy frameworks such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). We encourage airports to stay informed of regulatory developments on this topic.
