CEO Spotlight: Alex Mans of Flyr

Flyr was founded by Alex Mans in 2013 as an airfare forecasting tool, but it has since evolved to offer airlines and hospitality companies a range of technology, including offer creation, personalization and revenue management tools.

Flyr announced $295 million in funding in August 2024 and went on to unveil its airline retailing management system a month later. The company has also made a string of acquisitions in recent years, including Pribas, Newshore and Pace Revenue in 2022.

The road to modern retailing in the airline world is long and very complex.

Implementing the International Air Transport Association's New Distribution Capability technology standard is still a source of consternation for many carriers and their retail partners, but others are beginning to evolve towards offer and order and the dream of offering travelers personalized services.

Flyr, which was founded in 2013, has been steadily building up its own retail technology offering for carriers in recent years. The company launched its airline offer and order management system last September, having announced a $295 million funding round the previous month to "accelerate the delivery of modern reservation system."

The United States-based company also has a presence in the hospitality technology world, having acquired Pace Revenue in 2022.

In an interview with PhocusWire, Alex Mans, founder and CEO of Flyr, discussed the current state of airline retailing and the potential for carriers to begin bundling far more than bags and seats.

He spoke about the company's investment priorities, sharing that it invests more than $100 million a year in "running the business, scaling the business and most goes into R&D [research and development]," as well as the potential for further acquisitions to help accelerate "product readiness."

Mans went on to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and agentic AI on airlines, as well as the challenges for the industry and those he faces leading Flyr.

He also touched on hospitality technology and the impact of global instability on the travel industry's appetite to adopt new technology.
