On April 13, 2025, Expo 2025 Osaka officially welcomed the world, marking the grand opening of the China Pavilion alongside the international event in Japan. Leaders and delegates from both China and Japan’s political and business sectors, as well as members of the Pavilion’s construction committee, came together to celebrate the commencement of this highly anticipated international showcase.

To mark the occasion, the China Pavilion staged vibrant cultural performances, including the dance drama Crested Ibis, a symbol of the enduring friendship between China and Japan. A traditional lion dance also lit up the venue, conveying messages of peace and goodwill through cultural artistry.

Spanning approximately 3,509 square meters, the China Pavilion stands out as one of the largest self-built foreign pavilions at Expo 2025 Osaka. Its architectural concept draws inspiration from ancient Chinese bamboo slips — an early form of documentation — artfully incorporating meaningful motifs such as bamboo, Chinese calligraphy, and scroll imagery. These elements collectively reflect the richness of Chinese cultural heritage.

The exhibition inside the pavilion is centered around the theme “Building a Community of Life for Man and Nature – Future Society of Green Development.” It is divided into three core sections: “Harmony between Humanity and Nature,” “Green Mountains and Clear Waters,” and “Endless Life.” Through these segments, the pavilion tells a compelling story of China’s ecological philosophies rooted in millennia-old traditions while showcasing its ongoing contributions to sustainable development in the modern age.

The pavilion not only looks back at China’s legacy of harmony with nature but also envisions a global future of joint environmental stewardship. It reflects China’s aspiration to collaborate with the international community in forging a shared ecological future.

Throughout the Expo, the China Pavilion will also host a dynamic lineup of programs involving more than 30 provinces, regions, and institutions from across the country. These events are designed to enhance cultural diplomacy and foster stronger international partnerships.

They expressed keen interest in the pavilion’s highlights, including national treasure-level artifacts and rare lunar soil samples. Guests also conveyed their hope that Expo 2025 Osaka would serve as a platform for deepening cross-cultural understanding, mutual learning, and international cooperation.
