IHG Powers Up Ruby Hotels Growth with First Signings in Germany and Denmark

IHG Hotels & Resorts Expands Ruby Hotels Brand with Debut Signings in Berlin and Copenhagen

IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global hospitality leader, has announced the signing of its first Ruby Hotels since acquiring the boutique lifestyle brand in February 2025. These signings mark a significant milestone as IHG begins integrating Ruby Hotels into its global portfolio with two prominent European projects.

The brand is set to make its Berlin debut with a new 375-room Ruby Hotel, slated to welcome guests in early 2028. The project is being developed in collaboration with Empira Group, a leading real estate investment company, and will be managed by The Ruby Group.

Meanwhile, IHG has also confirmed its entry into the Danish market with a Ruby Hotel in Copenhagen, featuring 219 guest rooms. This hotel is on track to open in early 2027 and is being developed in partnership with ECE. Like its Berlin counterpart, it will also be operated by The Ruby Group.

Ruby Hotels, the 20th addition to IHG’s growing brand family, is known for its distinctive “Lean Luxury” philosophy—offering elevated design, essential comforts, and genuine city-centric experiences at a competitive price point. Guests can expect thoughtfully designed rooms with high-quality beds and showers, along with atmospheric 24/7 bars serving handcrafted cocktails that reflect the spirit of the destination.

Germany continues to be a cornerstone for IHG’s European growth strategy. With nearly 490 million overnight stays recorded in 2023, it stands as one of Europe’s most robust hospitality markets. IHG currently operates 147 hotels across Germany and has 75 additional properties in the pipeline, including the recently signed Bristol Berlin under the Vignette Collection. The new Ruby Hotel in Berlin further solidifies IHG’s commitment to strengthening its presence in key German cities.

In Denmark, the addition of Ruby Hotels enhances IHG’s existing footprint, which includes the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers. This expansion reflects IHG’s broader vision of brand diversification and sustained development across major urban hubs in Europe.

Karin Sheppard, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said “When we acquired the Ruby Hotels brand, we saw really exciting opportunities to grow the brand both here in Europe and around the world as it meets the demands of owners and guests for a premium urban lifestyle offering. As such, we are delighted to announce our first Ruby Hotel signings, together with The Ruby Group, less than six weeks since we welcomed the brand to our portfolio.

We have seen widespread positivity and enthusiasm from our owners and investors for Ruby Hotels as they look to develop in the growing urban micro subsegment. These latest signings in Berlin and Copenhagen are strong reinforcements of the brand’s success in strategic city centre locations, and we can’t wait to see both hotels bring their style and charm to travellers in these two energetic capitals.”

Set within the iconic Ku’damm Eck building on Berlin’s legendary Kurfürstendamm boulevard, the upcoming Ruby Hotel is set to deliver a chic, modern stay in one of the city’s most celebrated neighborhoods. With its prime location amid Berlin’s rich tapestry of culture, history, and entertainment, the hotel promises guests a stylish escape complete with a rooftop terrace on the 12th floor, offering sweeping views of the capital’s famed shopping and arts district.

Meanwhile, in Copenhagen, Ruby will transform a former office building into a vibrant hotel experience. Located in the upscale Frederiksberg area—renowned for its culinary hotspots, cultural landmarks, and boutique-lined streets—the new hotel will feature lively communal spaces, a serene winter garden at ground level, and a rooftop terrace showcasing panoramic views across the Danish capital.

Founded in 2013, Ruby Hotels currently operates 20 properties across key European cities and has an additional 12 hotels under development, scheduled to open within the next three years. In Germany alone, Ruby’s footprint includes nine hotels spread across Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart.
