November 2024 Total International Travel Volume

 

In November 2024, International Visitor Arrivals to the United States totaled 5,652,354, an increase of +7.2 percent Compared to November 2023

Outbound Travel Departures from the United States by U.S. Citizens Totaled 8,185,527 in November 2024, an Increase of +11 percent Compared to November 2023

Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office show that in November 2024: 

International Arrivals to the United States

  • Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume to the United States of 5,652,354, increased +7.2 percent compared to November 2023 and represented 93 percent of the pre-COVID total visitor volume reported for November 2019.
  • Overseas visitor volume to the United States of 2,555,748 increased +6.3 percent from November 2023.
  • The largest number of international visitor arrivals was from Mexico (1,654,584), Canada (1,442,022), the United Kingdom (299,676), Brazil (162,348), and Japan (141,389). Combined, these top 5 source markets accounted for 65.5 percent of total international arrivals.
  • Of the top 20 tourist generating countries to the United States, Canada (-3.5 percent), Japan (-7.5), South Korea (-5.3 percent), the Netherlands (-0.4 percent), and Ecuador (-7.2 percent) reported a decrease in visitor volume in November 2024 compared to November 2023.
  • The top 5 overseas tourism arrivals for November were the United Kingdom (247,765), Brazil (149,683), Japan (110,703), Germany (99,761), and South Korea (95,276).
  • The top 5 overseas business arrivals for November were the United Kingdom (50,735), India (38,294), Japan (29,738), Germany (26,814), and China (21,192).
  • The top 5 overseas student arrivals for November were India (9,775), China (9,006), South Korea (2,204), Taiwan (1,363), and Brazil (1,214).

 International Departures from the United States

  • Total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States of 8,185,527 increased +11 percent compared to November 2023 and were 112.9 percent of total departures in pre-pandemic November 2019.
  • The year-to-date (YTD) market share for North America (Mexico & Canada) was 49.9 percent and overseas was 50.1 percent.
  • Mexico recorded the largest outbound visitor volume of 3,517,062 (43 percent of total departures for November and 36.6 percent (YTD)). Canada recorded a year-over-year increase of +19.2 percent.
  • Combined YTD, Mexico (35,809,401) and the Caribbean (10,248,647) accounted for 47.1 percent of total U.S. citizen international visitor departures.
  • Europe was the second largest market for outbound U.S. visitors with 1,308,239 departures. This accounted for 16 percent of all departures in November. Outbound visitation to Europe in November 2024 increased +6.8 percent compared to November 2023.
