The assistant cook and assistant bartender/waiter courses lasted for six weeks. During the assistant cook course, participants learned basic cooking techniques. Those who took the assistant bartender/waiter course were taught skills such as bartending techniques, taking and serving orders, and how to provide quality service. They also participated in a Personal Empowerment training aimed at developing interpersonal skills. All participants are currently working in a hospitality company for a period of five months and are receiving a salary. After this five-month period, the company has the option to offer the participants a work contract based on their performance.
Additionally, a five-week artisan course took place. The participants learned how to design and create their own crafts using natural and local materials. They also took a ‘Small Business’ course offered by the Ministry of Economic Development. The artisan course concluded with participation in the Kaya Kaya Festival. Furthermore, for the first time, a Host course was also offered. Topics included communication, general knowledge about Curaçao, its history, culture, and customer service. An informational session from the Ministry of Labor about employee and employer rights and obligations, as well as presentations from CTB regarding marketing and the tourism product, were also part of the program. Finally, a group of nine workers in the hospitality industry received their Training Instructor certificates. These individuals are responsible for guiding the participants in their workplace.
The training program is managed by the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) and implemented by the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB). The program is executed in close collaboration with the Ministry of Labor (SOAW), the Ministry of Education (OWCS), and partners in the private sector.
