Tropical storm Debby causes nearly 2,000 flight cancellations, cruise changes

As Tropical Storm Debby approached Florida, nearly 2,000 US flights were canceled, and about 6,300 were delayed by Sunday evening. Airlines provided weather-related complimentary waivers to passengers. Meanwhile, several cruise lines have had to change in-progress and future sailings due to the storm.

Boeing has announced that former Rockwell Collins CEO Robert "Kelly" Ortberg will succeed Dave Calhoun as CEO, effective Aug. 8. "Kelly is an experienced leader who is deeply respected in the aerospace industry, with a well-earned reputation for building strong teams and running complex engineering and manufacturing companies," said Boeing Chairman Steven Mollenkopf.

Tech drives 7% growth in room nights for Booking Holdings

Booking Holdings saw a 7% increase in room nights booked in Q2, totaling 287 million, largely due to recent tech upgrades that include its push to add flights and attractions to the platform as well as AI advancements. CEO Glenn Fogel noted a 20% annual growth over two years, indicating strong market demand. Gross travel bookings reached $41.4 billion, with revenue up 7% to $5.9 billion.

American Airlines is partnering with Audible to allow passengers to listen to more than 240 hours of audiobooks, podcasts and audio dramas. "With over 1,500 free content pieces already, the new Audible library will give customers even more entertainment options to choose from, creating a unique experience for each journey," said Raphael Girardoni, American's managing director of customer experience, product and design.

WORKFORCE
The UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hospitality in Las Vegas has been given a $1 million donation from Marco Benvenuti, a 2002 graduate and founder of hospitality revenue management software company Duetto.
