Singapore Airlines offering payouts to injured turbulent flight passengers

Singapore Airlines will pay thousands in compensation to passengers  injured on a London to Singapore flight that was hit by severe turbulence.

The flag carrier said it will pay $10,000 passengers who had minor injuries.

For more serious injuries, there will be an initial payment of $25,000 for ‘immediate needs.

It will then have discussions about compensation for those who require ongoing assistance for their specific ‘circumstances.’

The airline has been covering medical expenses.

A 73-year-old British man died and many were seriously injured on the flight as it flew over Myanmar.

The plane was immediately diverted to Bangkok.

Singapore Airlines hasn’t said how many people will be eligible for the pay-outs.

Over 100 people received medical attention.

Some suffered spinal cord and brain injuries.

Singapore Airlines has already offered full refunds for all passengers.

It also offered several hundred dollars to all passengers for immediate expenses following the diversion.

Following the incident the airline tweaked its seatbelt policy.
