American Queen Voyages recently ceased all cruise operations due to financial problems.
ACL will buy the American Queen, the largest ever US paddlewheeler.
It is also acquiring American Duchess, American Countess, and American Empress.
It agreed a purchase price of $6.3 million for the four ships and related assets.
No buyer has been announced yet for AQV’s two coastal ships, Ocean Voyager and the Ocean Navigator.
American Queen Voyages is in bankruptcy proceedings with assets, including its ship fleet being sold off.
Parent company Hornblower Group said it will wind up American Queen Voyages.
“We are pleased to be the successful bidder for AQV’s river vessels. We will announce additional details after this portion of the bankruptcy process concludes,” American Cruise Lines said.
American Cruise Lines has a growing fleet of 19 vessels with five currently on order.
It operates one Mississippi paddlewheeler, the American Heritage.
