Euromonitor’s annual analysis of global consumer trends always provides valuable insights on what people around the world value and how their shopping behavior and motivations may be changing. Senior reporter Linda Fox took a closer look at some of the trends and how they may factor into travel in the coming year.
Travel companies have long been criticized for being behind the curve on innovation and adoption of new technology. News editor Derek Catron explores the concept of “technical debt” and the risks it can create for companies, particularly as the pace accelerates for both new solutions coming to market and consumer expectations of a seamless, efficient travel experience. That topic of a technology gap was also the crux of findings from an analysis by H2c based on a survey of hospitality executives representing more than 17,000 properties around the world. While progress is being made in implementing more cohesive and comprehensive tech solutions in hotels – driven in part by greater accessibility to guest data coming through direct bookings – the hoteliers recognize there is still much to be done.
