Tongcheng Travel Makes Grand Debut at ITB Asia, Eyes Global Hotel Network Growth

 

Tongcheng Travel Holdings Limited, a leading online travel company in China, made its debut at ITB Asia, the largest travel trade exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region held in Singapore. During the event, the company exhibited its wide array of products and comprehensive services to global travel professionals. By utilizing Singapore’s role as a regional hub, Tongcheng Travel plans to enhance partnerships with various suppliers, hotels, and travel agencies. This initiative aims to boost the company’s growth in the Asia-Pacific region, offering Chinese travelers better outbound packages and enhanced travel experiences.

Li Liang, Senior VP of Tongcheng Travel and CEO of Accommodation and Local Consumption Businesses expressed that ITB Asia enables them to seek expansion opportunities in Singapore and nearby regions while enhancing partnerships with quality hotel suppliers in Asia and beyond.. He says, “Asia, especially East and Southeast Asia, has always been a target travelling destination for Tongcheng Travel.”

Before the pandemic, China was a top outbound tourism spender. The revival of outbound travel, driven by non-first-tier city residents’ increased demand and purchasing power, has caught the attention of global travel companies. With international air travel gradually returning to normalcy and expanding its reach, making travel more convenient from non- first-tier cities in China, there is an anticipated further surge in the demand for outbound travel.

Approximately 87% of Tongcheng Travel’s registered users lived in Chinese cities that weren’t among the top 100 as of the second quarter of 2023. During the same time period, lower tier cities accounted for about 70% of its paying users on the Weixin platform.

In China’s outbound market, younger users are starting to dominate the market. This tech- savvy Gen-Z generation prefers digital bookings via mobile apps like Weixin. Tongcheng Travel caters to this trend, offering tailored packages for Jay Chou’s “Carnival World Tour 2023” in Bangkok, providing lodging, airport transport, limousine services, and concert tickets in one convenient package. Tongcheng Travel currently offers online reservations for 390,000 domestic hotels and extends its reach to 790,000 international accommodations in 10,000+ destinations.
