Oh Canada! It’s Time to Talk About Business Travel

I’m “checking in” today from Toronto where we’re in full swing at the 2023 GBTA Canada Conference. Building on the momentum of our Latin America conference in Mexico City in March, this regional conference again confirms our industry’s steady recovery back to “normal” for meetings and events.

Leaders in the Canadian business travel community are coming together over the coming days for an insightful lineup of learning, networking and advocacy. Amongst the many sessions, we are hosting a series of meetings with Canadian officials. Engagements like these are vital as a better-informed government leads to better legislative outcomes to build a thriving business travel industry.

Next week, the lens turns to our GBTA Foundation’s “People” focus, with over 100 GBTA members heading to New Orleans for the 2023 Ladders Summit. In its ninth season, the dedicated participants, mentors, and leaders of this popular team-based mentoring program culminate their year of collaboration and ideation at this three-day Summit. This year’s theme is “Get Inspired: Looking Beyond Travel to Drive Change” – and you’ll see the winning team showcase their project at GBTA Convention in August!

We are also less than a month away from an impactful duo of in-person events: the 2023 GBTA Global Sustainability Summit and U.S. Legislative Summit take place back-to-back in Washington, D.C. in mid-June. These events provide a hands-on opportunity to learn, connect and get involved in two very important areas in our industry. (And by combining one business trip for the two events, you can travel purposefully double your impact.) During the Sustainability Summit we’ll also be unveiling our next major research report – “The State of Climate Change in Global Business Travel” – marking another milestone in helping our industry continue to move toward a greener future.

Finally, nominations closed yesterday for those interested in running for open seats in the 2023 GBTA Elections. We want to thank everyone who stepped forward or provided nominations. Our association remains strong and growing because of our volunteers and active members. We’ll be announcing the roster of election candidates on June 22nd.

The coming months will be a busy but momentous time for meeting, learning, and connecting in person. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
