CAA workers vote for strike action

CAA workers voted to take industrial action over a pay dispute.

They are members of the Prospect Union.

Unionised members make up about 240 of the CAA’s 1,500-strong workforce.

It was the first time workers had been balloted on strike action.

The union cited anger over poor pay and excessive workloads..

Mike Clancy, general secretary of Prospect, said: “More than a decade of real terms pay cuts have left our members at the CAA with no choice but to take industrial action.”

“During the pandemic, they did their part by taking a pay cut but this show of goodwill has not been returned.”

The CAA had offered a 5% pay rise.

The regulator claims there will be no impact on flight operations if a strike goes ahead.

“With a modest proportion of members of Prospect, we do not anticipate any disruption to the aviation sector,” said Rob Bishton, interim CEO.
