Tourism boss criticize ticket kiosks for bad welcome

 

Operators as part of cost saving measures have planned to close almost all booking offices spread all over England, except large stations.


The Rail Delivery Group said that from offices, only 12% of tickets were perchased.


However, Jim Walker, Cumbria Tourism president said that train journeys are required to be enjoyable, not too taxing.


On 5th July, the proposals were declared with a 21-day public consultation due to end on July 26 th .


In few large stations, some ticket kiosks would remain or else staff would sell tickets on open space.

Mr. Walker informed BBC Radio Cumbria that it was truly a bad news for tourists to Cumbria which he said could leave foreign visitors left struggling.


He said that one should review a destination by the way they warmly welcomed.


On a station, if one is abandoned and haven’t given any sign what they are doing in Windermere on a Sunday, which is the main swapping of people coming up from Manchester Airport is a really an awful welcome to the area whatsoever.


He said that customer queries should have been calculated towards the plans. He also mentioned that many people go to booking offices to question for various things, planning a journey, recommendations,
information on different things and they are not logged anywhere.
