Skanska USA completes $38m renovation of Tampa Convention Center in Florida

Skanska USA has finished a $38 million refurbishment of the Tampa Convention Centre in Florida, which was built in 1990.

It constructed a 23,500-square-foot addition and added 18,000 square feet of waterfront meeting and event space.

The contractor refurbished 16 air handling units and installed two new ones on the roof, along with two energy recovery ventilator units.

The iconic Tampa Riverwalk was also refurbished with new railings, ramps, a canopy metal roof, and column wraps.

Skanska decreased material delivery by road to the city-center site by using the sea. Floating platforms delivered 700 structural steel parts, saving 75 truck loads.

It collaborated with Baker Barrios Architects, the project’s design partner, as well as Convergence Design.

“Tampa is a world-class destination that deserves an upgraded convention centre to complement its economic and population growth,” said Chuck Jablon, senior vice president of the company’s Florida operations
