Amazon teams up with Priceline for an unprecedented collaboration on Prime Day

Amazon.com Inc. joins forces with Priceline, a leading online travel agency, for this year’s highly anticipated Prime Day event. This groundbreaking partnership marks the first time an online travel agency has participated in the annual shopping extravaganza.

With retail spending experiencing a slowdown, consumers in the United States have demonstrated a continued interest in investing in experiences, particularly travel. Recognizing this trend, Amazon is expanding its offerings to entice new Prime members, while simultaneously supporting travel companies in filling hotel rooms.

According to Reuters, scheduled for July 11th and 12th, Amazon’s Prime Day will provide 48 hours of unparalleled deals exclusively available to its members in the United States. As part of this extraordinary event, members can enjoy an additional 20% discount on Priceline’s Hotel Express deals, which already boast an impressive 60% off hotels.

Despite recent cost-cutting measures and unsuccessful initiatives, Amazon identified an exciting opportunity in collaborating with Priceline, a subsidiary of Booking Holdings, the parent company of several successful travel brands.

In an industry first, Priceline will present an exclusive deal for U.S. Prime Day shoppers, further solidifying its position as a leading travel brand. As part of its ongoing advertising efforts, the booking site currently runs ads across various Amazon platforms, including streaming and audio products.

According to research firm Tourism Economics, travel spending has experienced a 5.5% year-to-date increase as of May 2023. In comparison, government data reveals that overall services spending in May grew by 8% compared to the previous year, while spending on goods saw a modest 2% rise.

Although hotel demand has faced challenges in recent months, falling below pre-pandemic levels for the third consecutive month, as reported by the U.S. Travel Association, this collaboration between Amazon and Priceline aims to stimulate the hospitality industry’s recovery.

It is worth noting that Booking Holdings has previously partnered with Amazon for Prime deals on several occasions. This time, Booking.com is extending travel credits and discounts exclusively to Prime members in Germany and Austria, valid through the coming year.

With this groundbreaking partnership between Amazon and Priceline, Prime Day is poised to deliver unparalleled value to customers, combining remarkable deals across a wide range of products with substantial savings on travel. This collaboration not only underscores Amazon’s commitment to enhancing the Prime membership experience but also demonstrates Priceline’s dedication to offering unique opportunities to its customers.
