The decision of the government to stop the domestic marketing effort of Tourism New Zealand has received an assorted reaction from the local tourism bodies.
Tourism New Zealand on July 1 st will discontinue their efforts related to domestic marketing and focus once again on the markets of abroad, leaving some RTOs contented and others dissatisfied whatsoever.
In 2020, when borders closed down, international tourism became totally idle and the Government requested TNZ to turn more towards encouraging New Zealand to the locals of the Kiwis.
After one year full border reopening to international visitors, this activity of domestic market concentration is scheduled to conclude for the time being.
The decision was adopted after a Domestic Demand Review by the MBIE, which suggested the Government to disable TNZ’s domestic tourism marketing effort for now.
All five RTOs who talked to Herald Travel appreciated MBIE’s way of thinking and cherished the decision of the government on the same.
Though, some said that complete discontinuing activity and commitment between RTOs and TNZ would not be a good decision, if not a step backwards.
Around 80 per cent of tourists in Hawke’s Bay are domestic ones; the CEO, Hawke’s Bay Tourism, Hamish Saxton, stated that he was aware of the return of global markets was significant to build the visitor market once again from scratch.
