South India’s major convention venue, Tamukkam Convention Centre was established at a total cost of 47.7 crore below the smart city mission and launched by Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin in September 2022, has influenced only around 10 host functions due to lesser facilities in contrast to the rent collected by the Madurai Corporation.
As claimed by the corporation officials, around 10 functions, counting four by the government have been held in the past year at the convention centre manufacture in a land area of 968 acres and with a built-up area of 9872 sq.m.
Bhuvaneshwari affirmed that the convention hall is a plain hall and has an unavailability of a proper stage to conduct marriages, the corporation can even set up a temporary stage during marriage functions.
Officials stated that the corporation had the scheme to start interior decoration work in the hall with the returns earned but it has generated finance only to maintain it.
