“It’s a great honor to serve as the Chairwoman of SATA Holding. I made the firm decision to stay with the company, alongside the employees and the shareholder, at a time when we are implementing the group’s restructuring process and have started the public tender for the sale of SATA Internacional – Azores Airlines”, says Teresa Gonçalves, new CEO of SATA Holding.
“Both processes are ongoing and running normally, which makes us feel calm about their future development. Regarding the operational context, we are watching an increase in demand compared to 2022, so everything indicates that we will once again set a new revenue record, which boosts our confidence in the future”, adds Teresa Gonçalves.
Also, SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines, SATA’s group airlines, announced that 5,800 passengers have voluntarily contributed to IATA‘s Carbon Offset Program. This achievement was only possible thanks to the airline’s passengers, who are very sensitive to their emissions and took advantage of the Program made available by SATA’s airline in association with IATA.
Their solidarity will help to support the development of worldwide sustainable projects. It is an excellent sign, which can only motivate an applause to all the passengers who have joined the cause.
SATA Azores Airlines launched its Voluntary Passenger Carbon Offset Program (based on the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Carbon Offset Program) on March 24, 2022.
The Carbon Offset program allows passengers to offset carbon emissions from their flights. When booking, passengers have the chance to support ongoing sustainable projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in different regions across the planet.
Passengers who have already donated to SATA Azores Airlines Carbon Offset Program are contributing to the “Ecofiltro Guatemala Improved Stoves and Water Purification” project. This project improves the health conditions of rural families in Guatemala by providing high-quality stoves to replace the traditional and inefficient fires used for cooking. The project also contributes to offering high-quality water purification equipment (eco-filters) to increase potable water access.
Currently, the IATA Offset Carbon Program does not have projects in Portugal; however, if some become available, SATA Azores Airlines wishes to make them available for passengers to support.
IATA’s Carbon Offset Program represents a step towards reinforcing the airline’s sustainability strategy for the coming years. In addition to the renewal of the Azores Airlines fleet, which allows a more significant volume of reduction in CO2 emissions, other incremental processes are taking place simultaneously in several areas of the Group’s activities. SATA Azores Airlines also joined the IEnvA Program, supported by IATA, and the CELE (EU) and CORSIA (ICAO) decarbonization programs.
