On 20,12,2022 U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen, chair of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion, announced that the bipartisan Omnibus Travel and Tourism Act has been included in the government funding package that is expected to pass the House of Representatives and Senate and be signed into law. This legislation will strengthen the U.S. travel and tourism industry by creating the position of a new Assistant Secretary of Commerce of Travel and Tourism to coordinate tourism strategy across the federal government.
GBTA applauds this inclusion as it supports the recovery of the travel and tourism economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. GBTA has been a long-time advocate of the Omnibus Travel and Tourism Act as a positive step in restoring global business travel and meetings in the U.S. and abroad. In September 2021, GBTA CEO Suzanne Neufang testified on behalf of GBTA and its members during the U.S. Senate Subcommittee hearing titled “Legislative Solutions to Revive Travel and Tourism and Create Jobs” on this topic.
