Joining the luxury hotel in the heart of Latvia’s capital, Carmen Mauthner has been appointed as the new general manager of the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga. The Austrian native brings 26 years of experience in international hotel business to her new position, having worked for several luxury hotel brands around the globe, the past eight of which with Kempinski Hotels.
Carmen Mauthner started her career with Sheraton Frankfurt, before moving into Food & Beverage at the London Hilton on Park Lane, followed by stations at the Hilton Toronto, One&Only Royal Mirage Dubai as well as the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai. In 2010 she moved to Thailand to take the position of Director of Food & Beverage at Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok and Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai, being responsible for the resort’s operations, transferring in 2013 to Mandarin Oriental Taipei in Taiwan.
Returning to Europe, working as hotel manager at Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna for two years, she became Regional Director Operations Europe for Kempinski Hotels in the luxury hotel brand’s corporate office. In charge of 27 hotels, she was working closely with hotel teams, owners and clients. During these years she filled several interim general manager roles in Kempinski hotels in Malta, St. Petersburg and Turkey.
With her extensive and wide-ranged career in the hospitality industry and comprehensive knowledge and experience of luxury brands Carmen Mauthner is a great asset to the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga, which celebrated its fifth anniversary in October this year. “I am very delighted that I have been granted to lead one of the most iconic hotels in the Baltic states. Fully motivated to implement fresh ideas and to review the hotel’s offerings, including food and beverage concepts, Carmen Mauthner will also focus on further creating memorable experiences and uphold traditions, promoting the destination through the luxury brand and showcase the beauty of Latvia and its people.
