KLCC the ideal sustainable meeting destination in Malaysia

Malaysia’s premier, purpose-built and sustainable venue, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is looking forward to sharing its sustainable destination offerings to delegates of IMEX, Las Vegas.

John Burke, Deputy General Manager of the Centre, shared that, the North American market is important to us and they are excited to return to engage with our customers and stakeholders here.

KLCC has been focused on amplifying our profile as a sustainable venue and destination which will be of interest to planners and organisers to find out more about.

Together with their partners, they offer a sustainable meetings destination where delegates can travel to, meet and stay in the heart of the city as well as interact in an environmentally- and socially-responsible setting.

With the vision to make Kuala Lumpur as Asia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Hub and to effectively roll-out its sustainability initiatives, the Centre has forged the first public-private sector strategic partnership with URBANICE Malaysia and formed the KLCCBEA Sustainability Sub-Committee to develop, implement programmes, initiatives, and engagement to encourage and inspire people and partners in creating the SDG Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) precinct that delivers sustainable journey and impactful experience to clients, visitors and the public.

They are also delighted to announce that we will be hosting the International Union of Architects (UIA) International Forum 2024 that looks to welcome 6,000 architects from around the world.

The KLCC precinct, a 100-acre city-within-a-city development where the Centre is strategically located, overlooking the world’s iconic PETRONAS Twin Towers and the 50-acre KLCC Park is the perfect meeting spot for architects.

KLCC looks forward to welcoming all delegates of the UIA International Forum 2024 to the Centre in a couple of years, said Burke.

Bringing forward issues faced by many emerging economies and growing cities through a forum and placing itself as a case study, UIA International Forum 2024 is all about creating a city for diverse future communities and sustainable growth as a holistic city paradigm.

Immediate past president of Malaysian Institute of Architects, the local association host, Datuk Ar.

Ezumi Harzani Ismail said, with the growing business potential and big number of architects in their region, they believe it is very timely to have the world architecture event in Kuala Lumpur, a multicultural growing Asian city and an emerging global city.

Through this event, the capital city of Malaysia will be a case study of diversified communities, a maturing model for developing cities and, of future cities.

The Centre, through its commitment and action towards inclusive sustainable growth, is aligned to their ‘Diverse city’ themed UIA 2024 and therefore, is the best place for this evolutionary meeting of architects of the future world.

The biennial meeting looks to gather delegates in fields relating to education, economic, public policy, education, industry and research for a global collective dialogue to question, discourse and propose ideas on what is the evolving role of architects in today’s economy, environment, social movement, and in the thinking and awareness of architecture, design and urbanism.

The Centre has many more sustainability projects in the pipeline, which the venue’s SDG Taskforce is looking to implement.

Some of the initiatives include a rooftop beehive project and complementary rooftop wild flower garden to provide an ecosystem for the bees, and a food composter to convert food waste into nutrients for the 50-acre KLCC Park.
