Greece recorded very high occupancy rates in October this year, compared to the figures of recent past Octobers, thus becoming among the most amazing months for the tourism sector, the Geek Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, has revealed.
According to the Minister, this result comes from the high rates achieved by the islands with strong Tuesdays and Athens, which also welcomes a large number of American citizens, Schengen Visa Info reports.
The occupancy rates in Pelion, Mani, Trikala Corinthia, and Arachova already exceed 90 percent, 95 percent in Vytina and Dimitsana, very high occupancy rates in Epirus (Zagorohoria, Metsovo, Aristi, etc.), while there are also destinations where it is now very difficult to find accommodation, such as the mountainous Nafpaktia, where the occupancy rates reach 100 percent, he said in this regard.
As the Minister of Tourism points out, October is an important month for the Greek economy. Meanwhile, income will be discussed in December.
Kikilias also revealed that the 2022 budget predicted €15 billion in tourism revenue.
At the same time, the Ministry emphasized that Greece not only exceeded this amount but will be over €18.2 billion in 2019.
At the same time, in the branded destinations of Rhodes, Crete, in their big islands, but the rest of the tourist destinations – and of course in Athens and Thessaloniki – they still have large occupancy rates from Americans, from the French… the planes come and go, Minister Kikilias also noted.
Recently, the readers of an esteemed travel magazine have chosen Greece in sixth place among the best travel destinations for this year.
Greece was ranked sixth in the price of the choice list with a score of 89.97, just ahead of Denmark and the United Kingdom.
In addition, this year, the Hellenic Republic has returned strongly, considering that tourist arrivals have continued their upward trend.
Previously, the Greek authorities revealed that international arrivals at the country’s regional airports exceeded pre-pandemic figures during this September.
Data provided by the Ministry of Tourism show that arrivals at Greece’s regional airports increased by 7.2 percent in September compared to the same month in 2019.
Moreover, according to Kikilia, the largest increase in arrivals was recorded in Corfu, Chania, Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, and Kos.
Thus, Corfu recorded an increase of 17 percent, Chania recorded an increase of 15 percent, and other destinations recorded an increase of 14 percent.
Besides, Minister Kikilias said that Greek tourism is boosting the country’s economy and also supporting it in a time of global crisis.
