Japan to increase its daily entry limit on arrivals to 50,000

Japan will increase its daily entry limit on arrivals to 50,000 from the current 20,000 from Sept 7. It is Japan’s latest move to ease stringent COVID-19 border control measures, said Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

With Japan lagging behind other major economies regarding reopening for inbound tourism, foreign tourists will not require to travel on trips accompanied by a guide, said the PM.

Kishida said that they have seen international relations gaining foothold in different parts of the world. Japan is increasing its daily limit on new entrances to 50,000 from Sept 7 to join the drift and ensure that the profits of the weak yen are felt.

Japan had successfully closed its doors for non-resident foreign residents and attracted disapproval with the strict move, but it is now gradually relaxing the steps of late with the advancement of the vaccination process.

Japan is still struggling with its seventh wave of the pandemic, registering 169,800 new cases on Wednesday. August witnessed a record surge for monthly COVID-19 deaths of more than 7,000, going up from 1,300 in July.

The earlier peak of virus-related deaths happened during the sixth wave in February, with 4,900 fatalities.
