Hungary records more than double arrival of international tourists

 

The number of international tourists and tourist nights spent in Hungary has more than doubled after a total of 493,000 international guests spent 1.4 million tourist nights in this country. About 63 per cent of tourist nights were spent in hotels, which means a more than double increase compared to July 2021, according to the reports.

The data provided by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) have revealed that the number of tourism nights increased by 15 per cent year-on-year in July 2022, with a high increase in the number of nights spent in Hungary by international guests as well.

Such data also show that the number of domestic tourist arrivals decreased by 8.9 percent and that of tourism nights by ten per cent.

In this regard, KSH says that the number of domestic tourists was 827,000, and that of tourism nights was 2.4 million.

The same source also reveals that about 58 per cent of nights were spent in hotels, while their number decreased by 8.9 per cent compared to 2021. In addition, local guests accounted for over 63 per cent of tourist nights.

As for the turnover in dormitories and community hostels, the number has decreased by 19 per cent and 3.1 percent, respectively, compared to July of the previous year. Among the most popular tourist regions, the Budapest-Central Danube Region stood out, where 47 per cent of international tourism nights were registered.

In July, total gross sales revenue at current prices increased by 26 per cent to HUF 61 billion. Thus, cardholders paid 35 percent less, or HUF 6 billion, with their Széchenyi entertainment cards in commercial accommodation. About 2,906 commercial accommodation establishments were open in July, including 946 hotels and 1,201 boarding houses.

Between January and July, the number of tourist nights spent in commercial accommodation increased by 106 per cent to 14.6 million compared to the same period in 2021. About 55 per cent of domestic guests spent more nights in commercial accommodation and foreign guests also nearly tripled with 8.6 and 6 million respectively.

As a result, total gross revenue from sales of commercial accommodation at current prices increased by 140 per cent to HUF 239 billion.

Previously, About Hungary revealed that the number of reservations in commercial accommodation in Hungary has marked a significant increase for the months of September and October compared to 2021. According to the data, the figures show that guest nights in the fourth quarter could exceed the levels recorded in 2019.
