Greece is set to extend winter tourism

Greece is getting prepared to expand the tourist season and take it further than October to November and to the rest of the winter months, under special conditions, with the intent to entice Northern European tourists to Greece. The country is hoping to have one of the best tourism seasons of all time. By now, visitor numbers have already surpassed pre-pandemic levels and are on track to draw over 33 million visitors in the coming winter months. The government is anticipating enhancing this by extending the tourist season.

Last week, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of Greece, declared about the effort at the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair.

Mitsotakis said that with an intention to extend the tourism season into the winter, they will sanction additional support. He mentioned that funds will be distributed so that the country can be promoted by the Greek National Tourism Organization via joint advertising together with airlines and tour operators until March 2023.

Emphasizing the extremely thriving summer tourist season, the PM explained that the government is set to offer additional incentives to expand the tourist season via domestic tourism and declared that the program – “Tourism for All “which offers subsidized vacations to all Greek nationals would be expanded to cover another 200,000 new beneficiaries.

This week, Vassilis Kikilias, the Tourism Minister, was in Germany and Austria and next week, he has plans to explore Sweden and France to market winter vacations in Greece.
