Brazil will host a new edition of the ALTA/IATA Joint Fuel Committee. The city chosen was Rio de Janeiro, where representatives of airlines, fuel suppliers, service providers and governments will meet between September 15 and 16 to discuss the future of aviation fuels in our region, with a strong focus on the production, distribution, and use of SAF, in line with the commitment to work for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly aviation.
Created in 2004, the Committee is responsible for identifying and developing synergies between airport operators, fuel suppliers, governments, and airlines. It also promotes dialogue and best practices to ensure greater transparency, open access, consistency, and predictability in jet fuel prices in the region; adequate, safe, and quality supply; and the establishment of more competitive fares and efficient infrastructure to develop Latin American and Caribbean markets.
This edition will include representatives of the Brazilian government, such as Marcos Montes, Minister of Agriculture, and Cleber Soares, Undersecretary of Innovation of the Ministry of Agriculture. Erasmo Carlos Battistela, CEO of BSBIOS, ALTA member since this year and a pioneer in the region in terms of biofuel production, will also participate. Johanna Cabrera, deputy manager of sustainability at LATAM Airlines; Bruno Miller, CCO of Alder Fuels; Clayton Melo, vice president of business development at Argus Media; Andrés de la Cadena, director of government relations at Honeywell; Carolina Grassi, manager of public policy and innovation at RSB, among others, will also be present.
"After the success, we had at the beginning of the year in Mexico City, during the first joint meeting of the committee, we are convinced that this second meeting in Brazil will allow us to have discussions in favor of the future of the industry and will allow us to take another step towards the implementation of SAF in our region," said Jaime Escobar-Corradine, director of Fuel, Charges and Environment of ALTA.
José Ricardo Botelho, executive director and CEO of ALTA, said that "this year, in the framework of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Brazil's independence, the joint meeting of the fuels committee ALTA/IATA and ALTA Aviation Law Americas will be held. It will be the perfect scenario to discuss how our region is moving forward to have the necessary regulations for the deployment of SAF. The fuel item has a very important weight in the cost structure of airlines, so there is room to generate efficiencies and there is the raw material to produce SAF locally. Our purpose is to offer the appropriate space for discussions in search of solutions and projects".
