Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism (CTT), the City of Cape Town’s official destination marketing organisation (DMO), says being added to the Timeout.com list of best cities in the world – beating cities like London, Tokyo and Dubai – reaffirms that cape Town offers unparralled experiences as an inclusive, hospitable African city, in the heart of nature.
Duminy adds, “The pandemic has shown us that we really need to celebrate our wins, no matter how big or small! This new accolade once again celebrates our city’s phenomenal diversity and treasure-trove of cultural and natural wonders. It’s a place where everyone can find their freedom, whether you’re a first-timer to our shores, or a local looking to explore the city a bit more.”
Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities at the City of Cape Town adds that this is exactly the kind of positive news we can use ahead of the Summer holiday season.
Vos says, “This listing reiterated what we are well aware of. Cape Town offers something for everyone. I like to think of Cape Town as a triple “A” rated City. This is a term normally used for credit ratings or for prime real estate, but in this instance, I mean three things when it comes to Cape Town, accommodation, attractions and aviation. In all three categories we are recording fantastic recovery numbers of more than 80 percent, and it comes as a result of hard work and clever campaigns by our City government and Cape Town Tourism, to get supply and demand coming back to Cape Town, with more flights landing from cities in America, UK, Europe, Middle East, Turkey, and Africa. Nothing compares to our amazing attractions ranging from cuisine, culture, and adventure. I am excited to share the good news that more than 100 cruise liners will be docking in Cape Town later this year. They choose Cape Town because of our destination readiness and incredible tourism value proposition, from products and services. We are expecting a bumper tourism summer season. Cape Town is the second African city to be featured on the list; Johannesburg occupies the 49th place.
