The DOT is considering incentivizing sustainable tourism practices

The Department of Tourism is considering the prospects of incentivizing sustainable tourism practices.

Christina Frasco, the Tourism Secretary, in a forum post-State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, sought the opening of incentives for the stakeholders of tourism what she explained would be the ones to execute the green policies of the government to conserve the destinations.

She said that it’s vital to incentivize sustainable tourism policy implementation. She added that the introduction of incentives for the private sector would put into practice the green policies that values environmental preservation as well as the introduction of steps that would promote protection of the environment, efficient use of energy and the like.

Frasco made the announcement as she admitted that sustainable development as a concept has a propensity to be disconnected to actual implementation by the very nature of it being hypothetical.

She also added that from her local government experience, she has learned that it’s crucial to succeed in translating these theoretical policies to actual implementation. And the way they are considering to do is to be able to bring in policies related to sustainable development to a wider sustainable development that looks at financial strategies, environmental, and social.

Frasco stated that she would engage the units related to local government in policy devising along with the host community and private sector for implementation at the grassroots. In the same forum, Frasco also briefed her plans to speed up the revival of the sector from the pandemic.
