Two life stories realized through GCC tourism degree

Genesee Community College’s Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management Program for over 40 years have seen many of its graduates to turn into industry leaders in the future. The college shared four success stories of this program’s graduates with GCC’s 2022 Commencement which took place over the weekend. Tourism, hospitality and event management was the first GCC program to provide a two-year degree.

GCC said that the program is proud to see many of its graduates turning immensely successful in their lives. Here are two of those stories worth sharing:

Derek Comer joined college to advance his career in food and beverage. After taking admission at GCC, he got an internship at AVI Food Systems on campus. In the program, the knowledge and skills that he imbibed along with his aptitude for the industry, didn’t get ignored by the AVI leadership. Comer was offered the director of catering position AVI, on the GCC main campus in Batavia.

John Zambito of Elba from high school was quite enthusiastic while visiting Yellowstone National Park. From that time onward, the beauty of the beauty of Yellowstone became his main priority and wanted to become part of the Yellowstone National Park staff. Zambito with GCC’s tourism degree got the chance to make that dream a true opportunity. This May, Zambito will be joining the first national park of the country as a front-line manager.
