Houston hideaway

Downtown’s C. Baldwin hotel in Houston has debuted the much-anticipated, exclusive event space, Parlour Hideaway, located on the first floor of the hotel. Accessible through a hidden door near the lobby bar, Parlour Hideaway is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the hotel and designed to accommodate intimate gatherings, including groups with up to 65 guests. Parlour Hideaway was designed by and inspired by women, with bold focal points, exquisite details and an inviting color palette.

With its vibrant and inspired aesthetic, Parlour Hideaway includes an elevated catering and drink menu, featuring high-end caviar service, a premium cocktail and champagne menu and signature dishes by celebrity chef Chris Cosentino, who also serves as the visionary behind Rosalie Italian Soul. The curated menu includes Truffle-Talleggio Grilled Cheese, Baccalao Fritters served with Mentaiko Aioli and Jalapeno Arancini Poppers, among others.

Designed by award-winning Kate Rohrer of Philadelphia’s ROHE Creative, Parlour Hideaway is both female-created and inspired, keeping the hotel’s namesake, Charlotte Baldwin Allen, as a design inspiration. Baldwin’s influence is felt and seen throughout the hotel, as the property was completely rethought and rebuilt in a style befitting the independently determined visionary.

Complete with custom Victorian millwork and wall panels infilled with large, graphic and custom botanical wallpaper, Parlour Hideaway is a retreat from the ordinary. A marble fireplace lounge space with scaled wingback chairs, deep leather settees with custom velvet pillows in eclectic patterns and petite velvet slipper chairs make up the carefully curated seating options throughout the room.

Guests can sip on champagne and mingle at the room’s focal point, an unapologetic pink bar, adorned with a large jade green oil painting centered at the back bar shelving, sourced at a local Houston antique shop. Not to be outdone by the vibrant bar, the custom-made eight-foot diameter crystal chandelier at the center of the room is a show-stopper on its own.

“The space was inspired by the traditional speakeasy, but not defined by it,” said Rohrer. “We wanted the space to tell the story of a woman’s many complexities. While beautiful on the surface, there is always a soul.”

“C. Baldwin represents the best of what downtown Houston has become, and the new Parlour Hideaway continues that narrative,” said Chris Niederschulte, general manager, C. Baldwin. “We created an intriguing event space unlike anything else Houston has to offer, and we are thrilled to open our doors.”
