ACI EUROPE’s Annual Congress & General Assembly 2022 will take place in T5 in the grounds of Aeroporti di Roma. It is not just an airport terminal. Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has become a symbolic place for social sustainability activities. It has been the strategic centre for safety, prevention and solidarity, welcoming and giving hope to thousands of people.
During the most delicate phases of the crisis, through state-of-the-art health checks, thanks to the guidance of: the Lazio Region, Istituto Lazzaro Spallanzani [the Lazzaro Spallanzani Institute], Local Health Authorities and the Italian Red Cross, T5 was used for the screening of passengers from, for example, India and Bangladesh.
T5 was then the scene of the extraordinary humanitarian campaign that enabled the Italian government to manage the reception of over five-thousand refugees from Kabul in total safety, thanks to a task force comprising the Ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs, the Interior and Health. Also, of importance, is the contribution provided by the Civil Protection Department, the Regions, the Guardia di Finanza, the Italian Red Cross, ADR-Aeroporti di Roma and a number of non-profit associations.
