The FiturNext Observatory launches the 2023 Challenge dedicated to how tourism can contribute to regenerating natural spaces

MADRID - FITUR opens the call for best practices for the fourth edition of the FiturNext Observatory, an initiative to promote good tourism practices in terms of sustainability. This year's challenge is how tourism can contribute to the regeneration of natural spaces, a commitment aligned with various United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to improve the quality of life of people and the environment.

Initiatives that promote the conservation of the natural environment through their tourism activities will be awarded during the next edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR), according to their level of replicability, the possibilities that the practices can be adapted by other actors and contexts, and their level of positive impact on the sector. All proposals wishing to participate in the 2023 Challenge have until 1 June to sign up via this online form.

Three categories highlighting the importance of the 2023 Challenge
This year's call is organised into three areas of participation in which projects can apply according to their services: initiatives with an impact on the terrestrial environment, on the aquatic environment and public or private organisations that work for the regeneration of natural spaces through the management and promotion of this type of action.

The three categories highlight the importance of orienting the tourist offer to promote activities and services that contribute to the conservation of the environment, at a key moment. The aim is to increase the degree of involvement of travellers, so that visitors leave the destination, not the same, but better than it was before their stay, increasing its potential. In turn, thanks to this contribution, the local community will receive the benefits generated that will help to improve their quality of life.

The 2022 edition beyond FITUR
The last edition of FiturNext, dedicated to how to promote a more accessible society through tourism, came to an end during FITUR last January. However, the Challenge is still active in the FiturNext community. This year's winning initiatives, TUR4allAlbastar and COCEMFE, participated in a webinar to explore and reflect on the challenges and opportunities of promoting accessibility in the industry.

At the same time, the FiturNext 2022 report, an analysis resulting from the research carried out by the Observatory, is being promoted through various media and communication platforms as well as webinars.
