Sustainable tourism drive of UAE can be important for Dubai

Now, it’s known that by the global pandemic, the international tourism and the livelihoods dependent on the sector were greatly affected. However, the travel industry of UAE remains resilient as the world opens up once again.

Governments and private sector partners have made sure that destinations stay ever attractive and people start travel again with full confidence.

In 2021, things were slowly looking up as Dubai welcomed almost 7.28 million visitors. Our aim is to strengthen the economy of Dubai by delivering first-rate experiences encouraged by sustainable principles. This area has untapped potential to engage the private and public sectors and get people’s support who are passionate about sustainable tourism.

Since the launch of our Sustainability Requirements, which were applied to make environmental practices across hotels and resorts in Dubai better, we have increased our efforts to fortify the responsible tourism credentials of the city. Also, the requirements support the hospitality industry and build up the ecosystem, as hotels and resorts progress towards achieving their target across the country. Dubai Sustainable Tourism delivered 18,000 hours of training to its stakeholders and partners in 2021 as part of these efforts.

Travel in 2022 – A Look Ahead that surveyed more than 10,000 adults aged 18 to 75, discovered that travellers are looking for places where they can submerge themselves in “authentic local experiences”.

Also, research commissioned by the Centre for Sustainability through Research and Education for Expo 2020 Dubai has highlighted that eco-tourism has importance to those travelling to Dubai as 44 per cent of visitors considered sustainability an “important concept influencing their behaviour”.
