DESIGNING AWAY IN MARGARITAVILLE

Margaritaville Resort Palm Springs, a desert oasis located in Palm Springs’ Uptown Design District, has completed the final phase of the brand’s West Coast debut and property-wide transformation with the highly anticipated opening of JWB Grill, the namesake eatery of James (Jimmy) William Buffett and the resort’s signature restaurant.

Nestled on 16 acres, the newly rebranded destination has 398 rooms with panoramic views of the San Jacinto Mountains or resort grounds from private terraces and patios; six Margaritaville-inspired dining options with outdoor seating; a 10,000-sq.-ft. St. Somewhere Spa; and more than 50,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor wedding, meeting and event space.

“[The resort] seeks to bring a relaxed state of mind and tropical vibe to the Palm Springs Desert,” said Marisa Gauss, designer, The McBride Company. “This desert oasis blends the casual laid back atmosphere Margaritaville is known for with the iconic Mid-Century-Modern-style of Palm Springs through furniture selections and artwork. Images that capture local landmarks, as well as tropical destinations, adorn the walls of the lobby space.”

The renovation process unearthed some historic gems of the property’s long history, including black-and-white photos of the original stage where celebrities such as Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley once performed. “The original terrazzo ballroom floor complete with the palm tree Riviera logo was also found during the renovation of the ballroom,” she said. “There are plans to display these pieces in the future Tropics Lounge.”

Freshly reinvented guestrooms and suites incorporate modern design touches with natural tropical tones offering a private retreat for travelers to unwind. Room choices include king and double-queen bedroom accommodations, premium Latitude, Chill Out, Hemisphere and Paradise suites as well as the crown jewel Jimmy Buffett Suite, a two-level, 1,761-sq.-ft. sanctuary.

“The calm blue tones of the guestrooms seek to create a relaxing tranquil atmosphere for guests, a stark contrast to the desert heat this landscape is known for,” said Gauss.

The Somewhere Spa—Palm Spring’s largest resort spa, according to developers—features 18 treatment rooms, a hair and makeup salon, spray tanning room, lounge and an extensive spa menu of relaxing massages, facials and salon services. Guests can enjoy two refreshing pools and relaxing oasis-inspired cabanas, listen to live music and entertainment, or simply sit back and sip on a refreshing frozen drink.

With more than 40,000 sq. ft. of meeting, wedding and event venues, this paradise oasis offers flexible spaces for every occasion including three ballrooms, executive board and meeting rooms, and an additional 35,000 sq. ft. of outdoor venue space. Additional offerings at the pet-friendly resort include a fully equipped fitness center, business center, expansive lobby and public lounge spaces.

The newly opened JWB Grill features fine-dining favorites, coastal cravings, prime steaks and everything in between, all in the California desert. All food is locally sourced and globally influenced, offering a taste into the island life the brand embraces.
