Guam introduces vaccine tourism program

Rcently, Guam has introduced a vaccine tourism program. This would encourage citizens of the adjoining countries as well as Americans living in East Asia to get inoculated against COVID-19.

On a charter flight from Taiwan, the first group of three travelers was due to arrive Wednesday, as reported by the Pacific Daily News.

Josh Tyquiengco, a spokesman for the Guam Visitors Bureau, explained that it was an introduction to bigger groups to come.

The “Air V&V” program is targeted at jump-starting the tourism industry of Guam which has experienced major decline in travel in the middle of pandemic.

COVID-19 vaccination rates in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are low compared to the U.S., where vaccines are easily available.

In this program, participants are required to pay for their quarantine hotel stay, up to a week. During this time, they will receive a vaccine shot on the second day. Depending on which vaccine they opt for, visitors could be on island for as little as three days, or more than a month.

At the end of their hotel quarantine if they test negative, they would be allowed to leave their hotel room and enjoy the island like any other traveler.
