The UNWTO has recently introduced a new competition to recognize the best ideas that will assist all rural communities to get better from COVID impacts.
Also, the Global Rural Tourism Startup Competition will support the entrepreneurs as well as the enterprises that can help rural communities grab the financial and social opportunities that will come by as the tourism sector reopens.
The United Nations specialized agency has recorded growing interest in unique and authentic travel experiences, like nature-based and outdoors tourism. With this trend hoped to speed up as tourism revives, the Startup Competition is keen to find out ideas that will make sure rural communities are best-placed to benefit. Also, the competition will try to find out ideas that will help establish resilience in rural communities.
To fight depopulation, the Competition will support rural tourism as a key tool, along with promote inclusion and reduce regional inequalities in terms of income and development as part of UNWTO’s prime target on tourism for rural development.
Applications are now open for four categories:
People –Leaving no one behind: Projects that incentivize job creation, promote gender and youth empowerment and set up opportunities for rural vulnerable groups.
Planet – Building back improved Projects in regard to the promotion and protection of natural resources, along with addressing impact of tourism on climate change, we as well as waste and resource consumption.
Prosperity- Opportunities for growth Startups that offer innovative solutions through new business models, instruments that promote access to finance, markets and marketing for tourism in rural areas.
Propulsion of Rural Tech – Implementation of new technologies to advance tourism and development in rural areas.
