In 2021, Crete is hoping to welcome 2 million tourists

To quote Dimitris Fragakis, Greek Νational Tourism Organisation (GNTO) secretary-general, in a recent interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) published on Sunday, “Crete has always been one of the flagships of Greek tourism and in the unprecedented crisis of the coronavirus, it managed to keep its reputation at a high level and to offer high-quality services to the tourists who visited it last summer.”

This summer, Fragakis emphasized that it will be much superior to previous ones, mentioning that the country has more weapons for a safe opening of tourism.

Crete remains one of the strongest “brands”, Fraggakis explained and calculated that vaccination course and the well-timed adoption of stable rules for tourism reopening will lead to booking increase.

According to the president of the Rethymno Hoteliers Association, Manolis Tsakalakis, June is the main month to attain the goal of 40% of arrivals in 2019, which translates to about 2 million arrivals in 2021.
