Direct flights are hoped to make Kashmir tourism better

At the Srinagar airport, night flight operations have started as a much-needed boost up to the tourism sector, bringing in applause to the Kashmir Valley travel and hospitality sector.

On March 29th, the first direct evening flight of IndiGo with almost 184 passengers onboard from Bengaluru landed at Srinagar airport. It was welcomed warmly by Dr. GN Itoo, the Director Tourism Kashmir along with Director AAI, Srinagar and senior officers from the Tourism Department.

The evening as well as the direct flight from a high-tech city like Bengaluru will play an important factor in attracting more tourists to the Valley.

Welcoming the development, Director Tourism Kashmir explained that evening and also direct flights from the prominent cities will give a major boost up to the tourism of the Valley.

“We have been pursuing direct and the evening flights for a long time which has now got materialised. There are many travellers, especially business class who fly by evening flights to save time. These flights will further increase the tourists’ influx to Kashmir and boost JK’s economy,” said Dr GN Itoo.

Also, GoAir previously conducted a test trial for evening flights and effectively landed at Srinagar. The airlines company had also declared non-stop operations from cities like Ahmedabad.

Director Tourism Kashmir mentioned that with the introduction of the evening flights, on a daily basis, 42 flights operate at Srinagar airport.

“We are hopeful that more airlines will follow the suit as we are expecting good tourist footfall in coming months. We have been promoting Kashmir’s varied tourism products among travellers through our marketing campaigns across many cities of the country. We received a good response and tourists are flying in in good numbers.”

Particularly, after the restrictions in travel were made simple in India, Kashmir has seen a crushing tourist footfall particularly during the winter months because of frequent snowfall which acted as a major attraction for the travelers.
