After pandemic-induced hibernation for almost a year, Kolkatans are now desperate to travel or have resorted to revenge travel that made January and February extremely and unexpectedly busy months for the airline and hospitality industries.
“Planes flying in and out of the city this year recorded higher loads in January and February than in these months last year. This is despite the near-absence of corporate travel that comprises nearly 60% of traffic in these months. This year, families are driving occupancy,” said an airline official.
Although total numbers are still less compared to last year with fewer flights operating, all airlines are witnessing good loads.
February is more or less a lean month for the travel and hospitality industry with school examinations scheduled around this time of the year. However, now with both classes and examinations being held online, many families are going for a vacation as the school can virtually travel with them.
