The Khonoma Village reopens its doors

For domestic tourists and visitors, the Khonoma Village Council and Khonoma Youth Organization together with Eco-Tourism Management Committee (ETMC) have come to a decision to reopen Khonoma with effect from February 1st, 2021.

On Sunday, a joint press release on this was published, specifying the guidelines and standard operating procedures that the visitors should adhere to. It is explained that only tourists on pre-booking and package tours routed through Government registered tour operators would be allowed to enter on producing COVID-19 negative test reports that are done not earlier than three days prior to arrival in Nagaland. Also, it specified that the tests should be done through RT-PCR/TrueNat/CBNAAT.

“Every tourist before his/her entry into the village must fulfill the directed SOPs given by the Government of Nagaland, Tourism Department dated December 22, 2020,” it added.

The release also said that it is a must for the visitors planning to visit Khonoma Dzükou to take a local guide, offered by the Khonoma Tour Operators. Those enjoying picnic should leave Khonoma jurisdiction by 5:00 pm during the winters and 6:00 pm in the summers, it stated.

Also, it stopped collecting flora and fauna, vehicle and cloth washing in rivers, and ‘anti-social elements.’

Suggesting visitors and tourists to maintain wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing, and cautioning the visitors and tourists that if they are found violating the aforementioned SOPs, they would be penalized by the KYO.
