More than 70% of Americans want travel vaccine mandate

TAMPA - A new SYKES survey finds more than half of Americans plan to get a COVID-19 vaccine and more than one in four expect most of the U.S. to have been vaccinated by summer 2021.

SYKES’ new report, American Perceptions of COVID-19 Vaccines” shares insights from a survey of 2,000 U.S. adults. The report reveals adult Americans’ interest - or not - in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine as well as their views on how K-12 schools and universities, employers, and the U.S. government should approach requiring the vaccination of students, U.S. workers, and international travelers. Respondents who are hesitant about COVID-19 vaccines also share which factors may persuade them to receive a vaccine.

“Many Americans are certainly in a ‘wait and see’ mindset - however, hesitant Americans told us they can be convinced to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Of those respondents who told us they don't plan to receive a vaccine, a significant number of them say they may choose to do so if people they know receive it without issue or if their employer required it,” said A.J. Hanna, Vice President of Client Advocacy at SYKES. Hanna added: “Furthermore, even those who are nervous about receiving a vaccine believe the United States should require foreign travelers to prove they've been vaccinated. This shows hesitant Americans can be persuaded regarding the protection that will come from these vaccinations.”

Highlights from the new report include:

  • 63% of all respondents plan to get a COVID-19 vaccine; 69% of respondents ages 18 to 24 say they plan to get vaccinated - more than any other surveyed age group.
  • 54% believe employers should require non-remote employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • 61% believe colleges/universities should require students to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • 59% believe K–12 public schools should require students to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • 58% believe the U.S. government should pay for people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
