Oman receives 7,000 visitors in October – sees signs of optimism

In October, Oman received 7,000 visitors as per facts shared by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NSCI) Oman.

In its November report, NCSI said that the number of visitors dropped by 97.4 percent this year in October compared to the same period last year. Visitors from GCC region topped the list of visitors to Oman.

From March since the onset of the pandemic, the sea ports were closed for cruise ships leading to a complete stop in cruise ship passengers. Muscat used to be a port of call for many ships sailing from around the world, and Port Mina Qaboos, with its proximity to the Corniche and Muttrah souq, always had a busy crowd of European travelers during the cruise-dock-time; however, this didn’t happen this year.

With normal commercial operations of airlines having started since October, there has been a trivial increase in in-bound travelers.

In spite of all uncertainty, the silver lining for the hotel industry is the eagerness of residents and citizens to explore places of interest within Oman. Openness to the offers of slashed fare and package deals by hotels in Oman has been good so far.

The month of October has fared better than the previous months this year, marking a positive turn for Oman’s tourism industry.

The Minister of Heritage and Culture Salim Al Mahrouqi spoke about the popular region of Jabal Akhdar seeing development of specific projects that would add to its appeal as a tourist destination throughout the year. Jabal Akhdhar boasts of prestigious hotel chains like Anantara and Alila that promote their properties as niche mountain resorts in Oman.
