Singapore recently announced that it has decided to launch cruises that do not visit any port with the program titled “Cruises to Nowhere.” According to reports, the Singapore National Tourism Board has partnered with Royal Caribbean International’s ‘Quantum of the Seas’ and Genting Cruise Lines’ ‘World Dream’ to start the initiative.
The Singapore Tourism Board mentioned in an official press statement that Genting Cruise Lines’ World Dream will start offering cruise services from November 6, whereas Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum of the Seas will set sail from December. It also further stated that the two vessels, whose home ports are in Singapore, will be part of a pilot scheme, and will go on round-trips with no ports of call.
However, the cruise experience will be different. Meanwhile, in order to ensure that hygiene protocols are in place, the cruise ships will depart from and return to the same spot, with no port calls in between. These ships will also operate at no more than 50% capacity, and will only be available for Singapore residents as of now. Onboard amenities and ticket prices for these cruises are yet to be announced.
Michael Goh, President, Dream Cruises said in a statement that they are delighted to be the first cruise ship to restart operations in Singapore, which will provide them the much-needed boost to the local tourism industry. He also added that the initiative will provide locals with more vacation options beyond land-based resorts.
