Greensboro Convention reported a loss of $163 million tourism business due to pandemic

Paralyzed' | Greensboro Convention and Visitor's Bureau says $163 million in tourism money lost since start of pandemic | News Break

Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Henri Fourrier mentioned a loss of $ 163 million revenue generation from tourism business and various events owing to the sudden outbreak of pandemic since March 2020.

Pandemic has impacted negatively on every business and led to havoc on the economy according to the President and CEO of the Greensboro Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Henri Fourrier. Most of the loss happened within the first and the second week of March as the company lost the ACC men’s basketball tournament. He added further that the real figures are more than million as the reported amount $163 million does not include things like High Point Furniture Market, travellers visiting the area’s attractions, and the anticipated impact from the Tanger Centre.

He has even mentioned that the businesses paralysed and they feel like trapped, with no idea of ways of overcoming or managing the situation. Recently Fourrier also added before Governor Roy Cooper that he was hopeful, but that hope soon turned to disappointment. At present the new regulations stated that people should stay indoors and even indoors the groups should include some 25 people or 50 outside the room. Under strict regulations people are expected to move or indulge in their daily chores or business, and this is most disappointing as events cannot happen in such small groups, hence business is at a grim state.

The devastating impact is also vivid in Forsyth County as this area also experienced a sudden reduction in tourism by 65 percent since the pandemic started. Fourrier said that though there are disappointments yet his office is trying to get creative and think of new ways to keep things interesting.
